Vive Ultimate Tracker Offers Body Tracking Without Base Stations For Vive XR Elite & PC
HTC has launched the Vive Ultimate Tracker, a self-tracking device that eliminates the need for base stations or a PC. The previous Vive Trackers required base stations, but the new Ultimate Tracker utilizes two wide field of view cameras and an onboard chipset for inside-out positional tracking. This means it can work with standalone headsets and does not need to be within view of a headset's cameras. The Ultimate Trackers wirelessly connect to a USB-C dongle and are currently compatible with HTC's standalone headsets, with plans to support third-party standalone headsets in the future. The trackers are priced at $200 each, with a required USB-C dongle costing an additional $40. To attach the trackers to the body, users can use TrackStraps by Rebuff Reality.
