Pico 4 Ultra Launches In Europe & Asia-Pacific On September 20, Preorders Open Friday

The Pico 4 Ultra, launching outside China on September 20 with preorders starting this Friday, is set to be the first direct competitor to Meta Quest 3. ByteDance confirmed the name "Pico 4 Ultra" globally, despite previously trademarking "Pico 4S." This might be a response to Meta's plan to release the Quest 3S, a lower-end version, whereas Pico 4 Ultra enhances its predecessor with significant upgrades.

The new headset boasts improvements in chipset, RAM, passthrough cameras, sensor suite, battery, Wi-Fi, and controllers. It retains the same design as the original Pico 4 but now features a display that is 25% brighter. It uses the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset and 12GB of RAM, compared to Quest 3's 8GB, potentially making it superior for multitasking and gaming details.

The Pico 4 Ultra incorporates two 32-megapixel passthrough cameras and uses pixel binning technology for superior image quality. Its battery supports faster charging and uses Wi-Fi 7 for enhanced PC VR streaming stability. The new controllers are lighter and ringless, providing better ergonomics.
