Latest Quest Update Brings Big Improvements to Virtual Desktop and Hand-tracking

Meta's final Quest update of the year, v72, introduces significant enhancements to hand-tracking and virtual desktop use with Windows PCs. The update includes a seamless Windows 11 Remote Desktop feature first announced earlier this year, but it will take time to become widely available. Meta Quest 3 and 3S users can now connect to their Windows 11 PCs more effortlessly. The initial setup requires downloading the Mixed Reality Link app from the Microsoft Store and enabling the experimental pairing feature on Quest.

In addition, Meta is expanding keyboard tracking capabilities, making them compatible with a broader range of keyboards, although this feature is only available to a limited number of users initially. Version 2.3 of hand-tracking, also part of v72, aims to enhance latency and stability. Other improvements include more stable hand cursor navigation and pinch-and-drag interactions.

The update also brings new features to the Quest's Instagram app, improved media organization, and live call captions in Horizon Worlds. Since updates roll out progressively, not everyone will receive them immediately. For more detailed information, please visit the full story on Road to VR.
