New Quest Dev Tools to Add Leg Estimation for More Convincing Avatars

Meta has announced new developer tools for Quest headsets that aim to make avatars more realistic. They have introduced an upper body tracking feature, called Inside Out Body Tracking (IOBT), exclusively for Quest 3. This feature tracks the wrists, elbows, shoulders, torso, and legs, allowing avatars to replicate more natural movements. In addition, Meta has unveiled a feature called Generative Legs, which will be available for Quest 2/3/Pro in December. This tool uses body tracking to create more realistic leg movements and supports various poses and actions. While it may not capture individual leg movements like dedicated trackers, it offers a significant improvement over traditional inverse kinematics. Users can see these features in action in Meta's showcase app, Dodge Arcade. For more information, users can visit the source article at Road to VR.
