The Godot Engine Is Now Available Standalone On Quest 3 & Pro

Godot, a free and open-source game engine controlled by the Godot Foundation, now runs natively on Horizon OS. This development enables the creation of standalone games on Quest devices without needing a PC. In March, Meta began funding Godot veterans to enhance the engine's OpenXR and Quest features. Meta engineer Fredia Huya-Kouadio ported the Godot editor to Horizon OS, which is available in early access for Quest 3 and Quest Pro on the Horizon Store.

Godot on Horizon OS includes all features of the desktop editor, such as GDScript editing with a Bluetooth keyboard and exporting to supported platforms. This means full games—both flatscreen and VR—can be built without a PC. However, Quest 2's RAM is insufficient for this use case, though the upcoming Quest 3S should work.
