Report Suggests Meta and LG Partnership May Be in Doubt as Korean Tech Giant Now "Setting the Pace" - Road to VR

Meta and LG Partnership Reportedly in Question as Korean Tech Giant Now “controlling its pace”

Meta collaborated with South Korean tech giant LG in February to develop an XR headset aimed at competing with Apple's Vision Pro. However, recent reports from Korean media suggest this partnership may be in jeopardy. The Korean Economic Daily claims the collaboration has ended, with LG seeking a new partner for XR software and operating systems, potentially Amazon. An industry source cited "differences" and lack of synergy as reasons for the termination.

Despite these reports, it's unclear whether the partnership is entirely over or just slowing down. LG maintains it is still partnered with Meta but is "controlling its pace." Initial leaks had indicated that the partnership aimed to combine Meta's technological strengths with LG's quality manufacturing to produce a next-generation XR device, possibly rivaling Apple Vision Pro by 2025.

Additionally, Meta has announced plans to release its XR operating system to third-party manufacturers like ASUS, Lenovo, and Xbox, who are set to launch their own headsets soon.
