New Update Fixes One of Quest 3’s Most Noticeable Issues
Meta is releasing an update for the Quest 3 headset that addresses a significant issue with its passthrough function—visual warping. Since its launch in 2023, the Quest 3's color passthrough feature has been both beneficial and problematic, with noticeable warping causing motion sickness for some users. The new v66 update promises to enhance image quality and significantly reduce distortion, making objects in mixed reality appear more natural. This follows improvements made in the v64 update, which enhanced color accuracy, exposure, contrast, and dynamic range.
The update will also improve the alignment between virtual and real-world hands, enhancing immersion. Additionally, the v66 update introduces better background audio handling for 2D apps and an experimental wrist-mounted menu button.
As usual, Meta is rolling out this update gradually. Users should monitor the alignment of their hands in passthrough to check if they've received the update. For the full story, visit Road to VR.
