Quest Headsets Can Now Show Almost Any Device On A Giant Screen Via A Capture Card

Quest headsets have gained a new feature with the Meta Quest HDMI Link app, allowing users to view the screen of almost any device using a UVC capture card. This hardware captures HDMI or DisplayPort signals and outputs them as compressed video over USB. The app can be used with smartphones, tablets, consoles, and more, enabling viewing on a large virtual screen in your Quest. While similar functionality exists with wireless methods, this new wired approach reduces the need for a Wi-Fi network and offers lower latency. Meta recommends setting the capture card to 1080p 60 FPS for best results. Note that DRM-protected content like Netflix and Disney+ cannot be displayed. The app is free on App Lab and compatible with v69 PTC. Capture cards start at around $30, and UploadVR found the Genki ShadowCast 2, priced at $50, to work well.
