Quest 3 Has Finally Replaced the Index as My Primary PC VR Headset, and I Owe It to Valve - Road to VR

Quest 3 Finally Replaced Index as My Main PC VR Headset, and I Have Valve to Thank

After nearly five years with the Index as my primary PC VR headset, I've switched to the Quest 3, largely due to Valve's new Steam Link application. Despite the Index's excellent features, including tracking, ergonomics, and industry-leading audio, its resolution now feels outdated.

The Quest 3 offers higher resolution, better lenses, and a more compact form factor without the need for external trackers. However, it was Valve's Steam Link app, enabling seamless wireless connection to SteamVR, that ultimately convinced me to make the switch. Meta's limited support for its Oculus PC platform further reinforces the convenience and value of Quest 3.

For wireless PC VR to work optimally with Quest 3, one needs a strong network setup, including a gaming PC connected directly to a Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) or higher router, preferably in the same room. A PC with at least a Core i5-4590 processor, RTX 2070 graphics card, and 16GB of RAM is recommended.

While Valve's software prompted my switch, there's curiosity if a follow-up headset from Valve could reclaim its spot. For the full story, visit Road to VR.
