Motorola Phones Will Soon Be Usable In VR On Quest's Horizon OS
Motorola phone users will soon have the capability to wirelessly view and interact with their devices in virtual reality on Quest's Horizon OS, thanks to the upcoming integration of Motorola's Smart Connect app. Announced by Mark Zuckerberg at Lenovo Tech World 2024, this feature will allow Motorola owners to engage with any phone app on a larger virtual screen. While this development primarily benefits Motorola users—who represent approximately 5% of the global smartphone market and 10% in the US—it offers an innovative way to stay connected in VR. However, the app's ability to support DRM content like Netflix and Disney+ remains unclear. Unlike Apple Vision Pro owners, who can only view their iPhones in VR without control, Motorola users may gain more interactive features. Currently, viewing any phone in Horizon OS requires a USB-C connection via Meta Quest HDMI Link, which does not support HDCP DRM. The rebranded Meta Horizon OS will also expand to run on third-party headsets from ASUS and Lenovo, although no release date is set for Lenovo's own headset. For the complete story, visit UploadVR.
