Mixed Reality Flight Simulators Are Speeding Up F-16 Pilot Training in Ukraine - Road to VR

Mixed Reality Flight Sims Are Accelerating F-16 Pilot Training in Ukraine

Dogfight Boss, a flight simulator company, and Varjo, creators of high-end XR headsets, have shipped their first mixed reality F-16 simulator to the Ukrainian Air Force to enhance pilot training. This move aims to help Ukraine keep pace with the influx of American-built fighter jets by scaling training efforts. After receiving its initial F-16s from Denmark and the Netherlands, Ukraine looks to replace its aging Soviet-era jets. Despite ongoing pilot training in the US and Europe, seats are limited, prompting the need for in-country training solutions.

The new simulator, delivered to a base in Kyiv, allows pilots to conduct virtual missions with a realistic experience using a passthrough-view of the instrument cluster. While it doesn't completely solve the training shortage, Dogfight Boss notes a promising reception and an urgent need for more units. With the potential of delivering at least eight additional simulators, this initiative marks a significant step forward.
