Microsoft Teams Now Supports 3D & VR Meetings, Releases ‘Mesh’ App on Main Quest Store

Microsoft Teams now allows users to hold meetings in 3D and VR through its immersive chatting platform called Microsoft Mesh. Mesh, which was announced earlier this year, is designed for building multi-user XR applications and connecting cross-platform users in a virtual environment. The integration of Mesh into Teams means that users can schedule and join VR meetings directly from their calendar. The meetings can be accessed on flatscreens on PC or in VR on Meta Quest through the Mesh app. However, Microsoft is ending support for its own Mixed Reality headsets, and there is no mention of HoloLens 2. Teams offers preconfigured 3D environments for meetings, while the Mesh platform allows users to build and join custom spaces. These features are available with a Microsoft 365 or Teams business plan, and custom immersive spaces are included with a Teams Premium license or a six-month trial for Mesh premium features.
