Meta's CTO Posts Image Holding a Prototype Headset with a Wide Field of View - UploadVR

Meta CTO Shares Photo Holding Wide Field Of View Prototype Headset

Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth recently visited the company's research labs, sharing six intriguing images on Instagram and Threads. Among these was a headset prototype with canted lenses and a wide field of view, potentially enhanced by an off-the-shelf sensor bar. The other images featured Ray-Ban Meta glasses, a Quest 3 with Project Aria research glasses, and moments with Meta's Chief Scientist, Michael Abrash. Bosworth expressed excitement about the technological advancements being made, hinting at future revelations.

Meta has been notably transparent in showcasing its hardware research, a tradition from its Oculus days, and has displayed prototypes pushing boundaries in various specs like retinal resolution and varifocal focus. However, the field of view hasn't been a significant focus until now, as earlier models like Half-Dome once offered a wide 140-degree view, which later versions sacrificed for compactness and other technological improvements.
