Meta Orion Interview Explores In-Depth Details Such As Resolution, Battery Life, and More - Road to VR
Meta Orion Interview Dives Deep Into Details Like Resolution, Battery Life, & More
Meta's Connect conference recently unveiled the Orion prototype AR glasses, a project nearly five years in the making. These highly compact glasses are a pivotal development, with Meta aiming to transition them into consumer-ready products eventually. Norman Chan from Tested conducted an insightful interview with Meta CTO Andrew "Boz" Bosworth, exploring the intricate details of the Orion headset.
Despite not being ready for wide-scale production, Meta plans to produce approximately 1,000 units for internal testing, each costing about $10,000. With a weight of 98 grams, Orion is significantly lighter than traditional headsets while boasting many capabilities seen in Meta's Quest 3 headset. Its cutting-edge features include silicon carbide lenses, MicroLED projectors, and advanced eye-tracking technology.
However, there remain challenges, such as improving outdoor visibility and enhancing resolution. Meta is working towards achieving a resolution of 30 pixels-per-degree (PPD), balancing image brightness and quality.
