Meta Reportedly Plans Ultralight Headset With Tethered Puck For 2027
Meta plans to launch an ultra-light mixed reality headset named Puffin in 2027, as reported by The Information. This announcement follows the recent cancellation of a high-end headset, codenamed La Jolla or Quest Pro 2, primarily due to the high cost of its micro-OLED displays. Puffin is expected to weigh less than 110 grams and will feature pancake lenses and passthrough cameras, with its battery and computing hardware housed in an external tethered puck. Unlike other VR headsets, Puffin will not come with controllers, opting for a gaze-and-pinch input system. This new product line aims to compete directly with Apple Vision headsets, focusing on media and productivity at a lower price point. For more details, visit the full story at UploadVR.
