Meta has announced that, starting August 31, 2024, it will cease providing security updates and bug fixes for the five-year-old Quest 1 headset. This final phase-out means that while existing and new supported apps can still be downloaded and used, any future security vulnerabilities could put private data at risk. The first signs of this move were evident in early 2023 when Meta stopped supporting first-party social apps on Quest 1 and later announced it would no longer allow new apps to target the device.
