Meta Is Still Testing 'Avalanche' VR Cloud Streaming To Let Quest Headsets Play Rift Games

Meta's long-awaited 'Avalanche' PC VR cloud streaming system has surfaced on a French outlet's Quest 3, with the "Activate Avalanche (Alpha)" option appearing in the Experimental section. GamerGen discovered this feature and, during a livestream, attempted to launch the 2017 Oculus Rift game Lone Echo via Avalanche. Unfortunately, the attempt resulted in an error.

First revealed in April 2022 by dataminer Samulia, Avalanche has apparently been in development since late 2020. Previous sightings of the feature were reported in Quest 2 devices, though performance issues have been a challenge. The system aims to enable users without gaming PCs to access Rift-exclusive games via cloud streaming, contingent on a high-quality internet connection.
