Meta Abandons Its Tools in Favor of LIV Partnership for Mixed Reality Capture on Quest - Road to VR
Meta Ditches Its Own Tools in Favor of LIV Partnership for Mixed Reality Capture on Quest
For an effective marketing strategy in VR gaming, showing real people immersed in virtual environments via mixed reality capture is unmatched. While Meta had its own Mixed Reality Capture (MRC) tool, it has now partnered with third-party app LIV for this purpose.
LIV's partnership with Meta is a multi-year deal, bringing advanced mixed reality capture and virtual camera solutions to developers on Meta Quest, and soon to creators for Meta Quest and Rift apps. LIV's new SDK v2.0 for Unity-based apps, supporting Meta’s Presence Platform capabilities, is now in beta, with a similar release for Unreal-based apps expected later this year. Both versions will officially release in Q4 2024.
LIV's capabilities extend beyond mixed reality capture, offering avatars for Vtubing and tools for streamers to manage chats, alerts, and notifications in VR. To create mixed reality videos, a PC with a supported external camera and the free LIV PC app are required.
One prominent user of LIV is Another Axiom’s Gorilla Tag, a highly successful VR game with over $100 million in revenue.
