LG Restructures XR Division, Allegedly Pausing Partnership with Meta on Headset Development - Road to VR
LG Shakes Up XR Division, Reportedly Putting Meta Headset Partnership on Ice
Korean media recently reported that the Meta and LG partnership to create a high-end XR headset may be experiencing setbacks, with potential cancellation or delays pushing a competitor to Apple's Vision Pro to 2027. While unconfirmed by either company, LG is now reallocating its XR division employees to other areas within the company, suggesting significant internal changes. According to Korean outlet ETNews, LG stated that the relocation will occur over the next month and is based on both employee preferences and department needs. ETNews also notes that LG has indefinitely delayed its XR technology and ended its product commercialization with Meta, although they will continue collaborating on XR research and development. Earlier speculation suggested the partnership aimed to develop a rival to Apple Vision Pro by 2025. One potential reason for the shakeup might be Meta's upcoming release of its XR operating system to third-party manufacturers, potentially impacting the deal with LG.
