Meta's research prototype, Flamera, aims to eliminate the need for reprojection in passthrough augmented reality (AR) headsets. Unlike current headsets that use high-resolution cameras and image processing algorithms to show the real world, Flamera uses a hardware design with 53 lenses per eye that focus light onto an image sensor. This approach results in lower latency, fewer visual artifacts, and a more accurate representation of the real world. However, Flamera's display system is subpar, with a low refresh rate and resolution.
