Escaping Wonderland Hands-On: The Puzzling Tale Of Molly

"Escaping Wonderland" is slated for release next month on Quest and Pico, and we've had the chance to try out this intriguing VR puzzle adventure. For our full impressions, please visit the source on UploadVR.

Back in 2020, "Down the Rabbit Hole" offered a unique experience in VR gaming, with our earlier review likening its existence to lunacy. Unlike typical third-person VR games, Cortopia Studios introduced a delightful adventure using a diorama perspective.

This new standalone adventure, set before Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland," brings a refreshing gameplay premise that doesn't require familiarity with "Down The Rabbit Hole." During Gamescom 2024, we played the Quest 3 version, guiding the amnesiac heroine, Molly, through a short demo. The game starts with Molly meeting Mr. Mole after her descent into Wonderland. As a 2.5D side-scroller, movement is controlled via the analog stick while motion controls allow for adjusting your view.

The demo showcased initial puzzles, like reassembling pipes in a first-person perspective, hinting at more complex challenges ahead. The diorama perspective also allows for detailed scene inspection, helping to solve puzzles based on environmental clues. A helpful hint system is in place for those who get stuck.

Considering various interpretations of Carroll's novel over the years, it's exciting to see what new story Cortopia will deliver this time. With only about 15 minutes of playtime, forming a comprehensive opinion is challenging, but first impressions are promising.

"Escaping Wonderland" will be available on September 26 on the Meta Quest platform and Pico. For the full story, please visit UploadVR.
