Apple Won't Let Vision Pro Developers Describe Their Apps As VR, AR, MR, Or XR

Apple is implementing strict guidelines for developers regarding how they describe their Vision Pro apps. Acronyms such as AR, VR, MR, and XR are not allowed; instead, apps should be referred to as "spatial." These requirements contradict previous statements made by Tim Cook, who referred to visionOS as an AR platform. Furthermore, developers are instructed not to call Vision Pro a "headset" but rather a "spatial computer." Apple also describes VR as "fully immersive" and believes that immersion is a spectrum within spatial computing. It remains to be seen how strictly these rules will be enforced and whether they apply to existing titles. The Vision Pro will launch in the US on February 2nd, with preorders opening on January 19th. Developers have had access to the SDK since June and are now working to meet Apple's guidelines.
