Apple Reportedly Reconsidering XR Headset Strategy Following Meta’s AR Glasses Announcement - Road to VR

Apple Reportedly Rethinking XR Headset Approach Amid Reveal of Meta’s AR Glasses

Despite the Vision Pro's hefty $3,500 price tag, Apple and Meta are on track to become direct competitors in the XR (Extended Reality) space soon. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggests that Apple is reconsidering its XR strategy after Meta unveiled its sleek AR glasses prototype, Orion.

Apple may opt to produce a less expensive version of Vision Pro or continue with a higher-end Vision Pro 2. Another potential direction includes creating a lighter, more affordable headset by offloading computing to an iPhone. Additionally, Apple could explore developing smartglasses akin to Meta's Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, which capitalize on user-friendly features without AR displays. These efforts point to the ultimate goal of achieving standalone AR spectacles that perform well while resembling conventional glasses.
