Apple cannot continue to ignore virtual reality indefinitely. - Road to VR
Why Apple Can’t Ignore VR Forever
Apple's upcoming Vision Pro is their first XR headset and is expected to generate renewed interest and investment in the XR space. Priced at $3,500, Vision Pro is a steppingstone towards Apple's augmented reality ambitions. While currently focused on AR, Apple may eventually acknowledge the importance of gaming in XR and feel pressure from gamers and developers to include virtual reality capabilities in their future consumer headsets. Vision Pro is primarily designed for indoor use and offers AR capabilities, including color passthrough cameras and impressive hand-tracking. It can also play VR games but does not come with VR controllers. Instead, it focuses on eye-tracking and hand-tracking as input methods. However, this limitation may pose challenges for VR developers who rely on traditional controllers. Additionally, Vision Pro has a limited room-scale VR gaming range of 10 feet by 10 feet, beyond which the VR experience fades away.
